In Kyiv, they decided on the schedule for schools for the academic year: the exact dates of the holidays

The city authorities of Kyiv have determined the structure of the 2023-2024 academic year. The educational process in the capital's schools will last from September 1 to May 31.

This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Valentyn Mondrievsky, the press service of the Kyiv City Council reports.

So, semester I will last from September 1 to December 22, 2023, and semester II - from January 8 to May 31, 2024.

The last bells will sound in schools on May 31. Compensatory classes to overcome educational losses and educational gaps, certification and other activities provided for by the educational program can continue until June 28, 2024.

Vacations in schools in Kyiv are scheduled during the following periods:

  • autumn - from 23 to 29 October 2023;
  • winter - from December 23, 2023 to January 7, 2024;
  • spring - from 25 to 31 March 2024.

In addition, for first grade students, an additional weekly vacation is planned from February 19 to February 25, 2024.

"The new academic year in the capital traditionally starts on September 1 and will last until June 28, 2024 - with breaks for holidays, certification and compensatory classes. We will take into account the situation under martial law and other factors that may affect the organization of the educational process , and if necessary, we will make changes to the structure of the academic year," Mondrievsky said.

According to him, the format in which the school will work, each educational institution will choose independently, in consultation with the parents of the students. The decision to introduce full-time, distance or blended learning formats will be made at meetings of pedagogical councils, taking into account safety standards and the wishes of parents.

"The safety of children and teachers is in the first place. Therefore, before deciding on the format of training, the technical capabilities of shelters located directly in an educational institution or within walking distance to it should be taken into account. School leaders will schedule classes in accordance with the number of people who want to study full-time and the capacity of shelter. Of course, we ask, if possible, to give preference to full-time education, "explained the Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration.

Thus, pedagogical councils should choose the forms and formats for organizing the educational process, approve the algorithms for the work of educational institutions. And also - to make a decision on enrolling the learning outcomes in the subjects of the "artistic", "physical culture" and other industries, received by students in institutions of out-of-school education.

In addition, teachers' councils must decide on the learning outcomes in those subjects that are studied at an educational institution abroad and correspond to the subjects of the educational program in order to reduce the teaching load on students who simultaneously study outside Ukraine and in Kiev.

Also, each school should update the movement patterns for participants in the educational process during an alert and conduct appropriate training and training in the rules of staying in shelters.

“It is important that we will pay special attention to the work of the psychological service, which should provide psychological support to participants in the educational process. In particular, we are talking about monitoring the psychological state, psychological five-minute sessions, trainings, individual consultations, etc.,” Mondrievskiy said.
