In the Kyiv region, a scheme to steal funds from food purchases for the military was exposed

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, together with the Security Service, exposed officials of one of the military units in the Kyiv region on packages with food for their personnel worth millions of hryvnias.

This was reported by the press service of the DBR.

According to the investigation, the organized group included servicemen and employees of the military unit, who conspired with private entrepreneurs and sold part of the products intended for the soldiers in shops, restaurants and bazaars.

They took at least 30% of the products from the warehouse, reducing the daily food supply for the military accordingly.

The "residue" of the products was also used in another scheme. A representative of the military unit, in collusion with a private enterprise, issued "empty" invoices for the supply of products worth millions of hryvnias, which were not actually delivered. And the products that were not issued to the soldiers before their sale were recorded on paper.

Due to the forgery of financial documents by the attacker, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine was misled and made full payment for food. At the same time, the criminals appropriated the cash.

According to the investigators, evidence has been received so far regarding the embezzlement of at least 5 million hryvnias.

Officials of the military unit and one of the businessmen were informed of suspicion under the articles of seizure of property by abuse of official position and seizure of military property by fraud or abuse of official position (part 5 of article 27, part 5 of article 191, part 4 of article).

The sanction of the articles provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 15 years with confiscation of property. During authorized searches, significant amounts of cash were seized from the defendants.
