At the Syrets metro station in Kyiv, navigation stickers have been installed to guide passengers when using the station as a shelter. The innovation is part of a pilot project to zone the platform.

This was reported by the Kyiv Metro Municipal Enterprise. The navigation is intended to help passengers arrange themselves more orderly during an air raid alarm and simultaneously facilitate the work of duty personnel.

Four recommended zones have been identified on the platform.

The station space has been divided into four categories. The platform has designated recommended seating for:

• people with children;
• people with limited mobility;
• people with animals;
• seats.

This zoning should take into account the needs of different categories of passengers at the station during an air raid alarm.

According to metro representatives, the navigational signs will also help duty workers quickly locate people who may need additional information or assistance.

Zoning is not mandatory

The Kyiv Metro emphasizes that the designated zones are purely advisory.

Station staff will not transfer passengers between designated zones and will not require passengers to remain in a specific location. The effectiveness of the pilot project will depend on how responsibly passengers treat the shared space and consider the needs of others.

"Zoning is advisory. We rely, first and foremost, on mutual respect from passengers and a willingness to consider the needs of others," the Kyiv Metro noted.

The company reported that similar solutions are being developed for other metro stations. After evaluating the results of the pilot project, a decision will be made on further expansion of this navigation system.

Passengers are asked not to bring bulky items.

Separately, the metro urges passengers to be more responsible when choosing the items they take to the shelter.

In particular, they recommend not bringing bulky items, including tents and air mattresses. The number of people using metro stations as shelters during air raids is increasing, so free space on the platform is essential for the safety and comfort of everyone present.

The metro urges passengers to consider not only their own comfort but also the comfort of those around them and to follow seating recommendations.
