July 7 has been officially declared a Day of Mourning in Kyiv for those killed in the massive Russian attack on the capital. The decision was made due to significant human losses, and rescue services continue to search for people under the rubble in damaged residential buildings.
As reported on the official website of the Kyiv City Council, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko announced the introduction of the Day of Mourning. According to the latest official data, as of this morning, 11 people have died, but the search and rescue operation in the Podilskyi and Darnytskyi districts is ongoing.
“Tomorrow, July 7, has been declared a Day of Mourning in Kyiv. In memory of the victims of the massive enemy attack on the capital. On this day, flags will be lowered on all municipal buildings in the city. It is also recommended to lower the national flags on buildings of state and private ownership. On July 7, any entertainment events are prohibited in Kyiv,” said Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.
According to the city authorities, flags will be lowered on all municipal buildings in the capital. State institutions, enterprises, organizations and owners of private buildings are also recommended to join in honoring the memory of the dead and lower the national flags.
In addition, on July 7, Kyiv will be banned on holding any entertainment events. The corresponding restrictions were introduced as a sign of mourning for the victims of the Russian strike.
The city administration emphasizes that work at the sites of destruction in the Podilskyi and Darnytskyi districts does not stop. Rescuers continue to dismantle the rubble and inspect damaged structures, as people may remain under the rubble.
“Our main task now is to complete the search and rescue operation and provide all necessary assistance to the victims. The city is doing everything possible to eliminate the consequences of the enemy attack,” the city authorities note.
